A brief description along with a link is provided below. All software is either shareware, freeware or trial-ware - you may wish to acquire licenses from their home pages.

This is a great little tool that allows clients to compress their database approximately 3 fold. However this may still not be small enough for most ISP's (Internet Service Providers). So Winzip 9.0 also has a function that will allow this "ZIPPED" file to be split into many smaller archives.
RealVNC - Excellent free software for allowing remote access.
IMPORTANT: The VNC Server needs to be configured by a computer technician. The Viewer can be configured by someone confident with computers. RealVNC will permit the helpdesk to dial in and actually observe what is happening on the workstation. It will allow quicker diagnosis and we can infact take control. An excellent remote teletraining tool. Quite a few offices have staff working from home and dialing in to carry out tasks.
NOTE: For best performance we advise a high bandwidth internet connection, i.e. ADSL or cable connection.
WinRAR 5.50 - The best compression software currently available (shareware).
A little more complicated to use than winzip but it does give better compression ratio's of 4 to 6 times. If you have a monthly bandwidth limit on your Internet account this will have the least impact.
Acrobat Reader - Document viewer (freeware).
PDF - Portable Document Format - is a very common format for sending documentation accross the internet. The major advantage is that the end user is normally unable to modify these documents. This version only works with Windows 2000 service pack 2+ and Windows XP. Older versions of Windows will need to acquire an earlier version of Acrobat.

Trend Micro Housecall - A FREE online virus scanner.
This is not software that needs to be downloaded. Instead it scans your workstation remotely for viruses and Trojans. Some computers may need to download certain components. McCafee and Norton also have similar services for free
Spybot - Search & destroy - A FREE spyware remover.
A good tool for removing pesky software which has been put on your machine without your knowledge.
Firefox - Undoubtedly the best web browser in the universe.
Its free and open source. Faster than Internet Explorer. Has cool themes you can download and apply. Does TABBED browsing (my favourate component - no multiple windows) and automatically blocks those pesky pop ups that so plague that microsoft product. But the real bonus - As its not a microsoft product there aren't that many virus/trojans/worms designed to attack it.
